The New York scene is so much bigger than in Dallas.

At first it was like, 'I don't want to date no drag queen.' I guess it's considered taboo and funny. I became part of a drag family, which is where I got part of my last name, Davenport, from. I got the name Sahara from one of my favorite performers at that time, Sierra. I was like, 'I'm black, so I should be the African one, Sahara.'

When I'm a lady, I'm a lady. Can you imagine walking into a men's room and seeing a beautiful goddess standing at the urinal? It would be as much uncomfortable for them as it is for us.

I had to build my name here by doing talent nights, talent competitions and networking and meeting all the working girls and figure out how to work this animal of New York City.
