We all know about the Clintons, who went from zero to $200 million since Bill Clinton left the White House. The Clintons made money every which way: by renting out American foreign policy, by selling pardons, by siphoning off earthquake aid intended for poor Haitians. I have written about this previously, so I won't go into it here. But in profiting handsomely from their office and connections, the Clintons are not alone; rather, they are part of a Democratic trend.

With this cultural arsenal at their disposal, big liars can spin out falsehoods with the confidence that no one else has a large enough megaphone to challenge them. This is how big lies come to be widely believed, sometimes even by the people who are being lied about.

What the socialist class is good at, however, is creating envy and entitlement. This is their peculiar talent. And even though they won't admit it, they are engaged in a desperate battle for social control. What they seek is a displacement of power in society in which they, not entrepreneurs, direct the great apparatus of American industry, indeed direct the lives of the people themselves. They cannot, of course, admit this publicly, or even to themselves.
