A life in the wild has taught me not to fear the unexpected, but to embrace it. In fact, I have learnt that those curve balls from left-field are very often the making of us.

To all of you who are both brave and strong enough to acknowledge that protecting your mental health and building positive mental fitness is a battle worth fighting every day.

So suddenly here we are. Six years on. I genuinely never believed we would film more than six episodes of Man vs. Wild , let alone six seasons. I mean, where has the time gone? I also really had no idea quite how many hellholes, remote jungles, stinking swamps, searing deserts, and forbidding, unexplored mountain ranges we have on this small planet of ours. People forget. Me included.

And so often the darkest hour is just before the dawn.

I quietly wonder: When did all this craziness become my world?

Once you commit to your goal, don't get swayed by the temporary lure of creature comforts and easy feelings - instead, keep focused, and remember the pain never lasts for ever, but the pride in having followed your calling will.

Why is it that the finish line always tends to appear just after the point at which we most want to give up? Is it the universe's way of reserving the best for those who can give the most? What I do know, from nature, is that the dawn only appears after the darkest hour.

And when it comes to life and mountains, it is really very simple: what we put in is what we get out. And in order to get, we first have to give.

20. Dreams Require Sacrifice The simple truth of life is that to get the things you really want, you will have to give up something else that you hold dear - whether it is your 'easy' life, your evening bar sessions, your comfort food or your time. Success requires sacrifice. Get used to it.

One of the other questions I often got asked when we returned home was: "Did you find God on the mountain?" The real answer is you don't have to climb a big mountain to find faith. It's simpler than that--thank God. If you asked me did He help me up there, then the answer would be yes. Every faltering step of the way.

Few people try, because few people dare. And most don't want to give up on the easy.
