The promise is a glorious hope to hang on to for the future. But it's His presence in the process that will steady our hope for today.

Comfort isn't a solution to seek; rather, it's a by-product we'll reap when we stay close to the Lord.

Jesus doesn't participate in the rat race. He's into the slower rhythms of life, like abiding, delighting, and dwelling — all words that require us to trust Him with our place and our pace.

Moment by moment we have the choice to live in our own strength and risk failure or to reach across the gap and grab hold of God's unwavering strength.

The enemy loves to take our rejection and twist it into a raw, irrational fear that God really doesn't have a good plan for us.

And that's when I just want to lie down on the floor in a very dramatic way and loudly declare, "BUT I AM NOT JESUS!!" Ugh. However, as hard as this seems, I think it's harder to keep letting circumstances and complicated people kidnap my peace.

God's promises aren't just for certain people at a certain low point. His hope extends into any and every size pit or pothole.

Imagine how differently you might approach each day by simply stating: God is good. God is good to me. God is good at being God. And today is yet another page in our great love story. Nothing that happens to you today will change that or even alter it in the slightest way.

I can rest in the fact that God is in control.

God is good. He is way more interested in developing our characters to match our calling than in manipulating our circumstances to make us happy.

You will hear human answers that try to tie bows around the big blows of life. These sound good in a sermon but never hold up in real life. And that's when you will see what a gift it is that you've been entrusted with enough hurt to keep you humane. You'll offer the only real answer available: 'The Lord helped me survive and He'll help you too. I'll hold your hand while you find your way to Him.

God isn't ever going to forsake you, but He will go to great lengths to remake you.
