The Flood was not merely a mass of water; but a collection of mud/sediment (earth) that was utilized to destroy the pre-Flood world for their sin. But consider the mountain-building period of the Flood of Noah's day (e.g., Genesis 8:4,5 Psalm 104:8–9,6 etc.) involving immense volcanic activity acting in conjunction for more than half of the year and surely some volcanic activity that was post-Flood too — which would extend the effects. The point is that immense amounts of fine ash and dioxides were put in the upper atmosphere to linger for hundreds and hundreds of years.

To put it bluntly, the churchgoer has been influenced by the secular world that opposes the reality of the biblical Flood. Many in the Church succumb to this secular peer pressure and also deny the global Flood.

These attacks are focused on Genesis 1–11, including the Flood and Noah's ark — in state schools, secular media, and secular museums . . . and even in many churches and Christian schools! Flood legends are an excellent confirmation of what we expected to find in a biblical worldview. Consider the converse. In an evolutionary story with millions of years where there was supposedly no global flood, there shouldn't be any global flood stories. So why would anyone have a massive global flood account in their history?

No one was innocent in the sight of God anyway. Now imagine the cannibalism, rape, murder, child sacrifice, and so on. Yet God was patient. He gave a 120-year countdown to the Flood (Genesis 6:313) and even sent a preacher of righteousness (2 Peter 2:514).

How many children were alive at the time of the Flood? When a civilization becomes evil, who usually pays the price first? It is the children and babies. How many ancient cultures killed or sacrificed children? Far too many! In the Bible, we find evil people like Pharaoh of Egypt trying to kill baby boys through the midwives when they were born.

Ancient historians like Josephus the Jew, Berosus the Chaldean, Hieronymus the Egyptian, Mnaseas, and Nicolaus of Damascus (Josephus even mentions these last four) discussed a powerful flood that occurred in their past. Ancient Greek historians like Xenophanes, Herodotus, Eratosthenes, and Strabo all commented on fossils being from a significant water event in the past (not always to the extent of biblical proportions but they understood the point).

The primary source of water for the Flood was the springs of the great deep bursting forth (Genesis 7:1127). This water in turn likely provided some of the water in the "windows of heaven" in an indirect fashion. There is no need for an ocean of vapor above the atmosphere to provide for extreme amounts of water for the rain that fell during the Flood.

Until the 1800s, most people from the Middle East to the Western World believed what the Bible records about creation and the global Flood. The secular idea of millions of years did not gain extensive popularity until the 1830s, under the influence of a man named Charles Lyell — who opposed a global Flood!

Therefore, during creation week when everything was good, there would be no need for any rebuking. If Psalm 104:6–9 were referring to creation week (specifically day 3), then why the rebuke in Psalm 104:7? This implies an imperfect, not very good creation. But if Psalm 104:6–9 is referring to the Flood, then of course a rebuke would exist in a fallen world where the judgment of water had overtaken the earth.

The Hebrew phrase in Psalm 104:8a is the basis for the correct translation of mountains rising and valleys sinking. This shows that mountains and valleys during the Flood were not the same height as they are today. Even today mountains and valleys are changing their height; volcanic mountains, for instance, can grow very quickly, such as Surtsey (a new island) or Paricutin (a volcanic mountain in Mexico that formed in 1943).

If we take ocean basins and bring them up and take mountain ranges and continents and bring them down to a level position, there is enough water to cover the earth 1.6 miles deep (2.57 km deep), so there is plenty of water on the earth for a global Flood. Yet there was only the need for the highest underwater peak during the Flood to be covered by 15 cubits (22.5 feet or ~6.8 meters based on the small cubit to 25.5 feet or ~7.8 meters based on the long cubit) per Genesis 7:20.

Did you realize that one of the few commands given to mankind through Adam was "to be fruitful and multiply" (Genesis 1:286)? If man had intense disobedience to God (e.g., Genesis 6:5,7 6:128) 120 years prior to the Flood (Genesis 6:39), are we to believe they were still being obedient to God's command here? Likely not!

But some object and ask, what about the "innocent children" — if there were any left — at the time of the Flood? First they weren't innocent (Romans 3:2329). But again, the onus would be on the parents and guardians who refused to allow their evil children the possibility of survival on the ark!
