We are amazingly similar to the children of Israel. We spend half our lives looking back at our own Egypt with selective memories, longing to have our comfort zone back. Then we spend the other half wishing our days away for a dreamy future in our own promised land.

God is able to stand in my yesterday, today, and tomorrow, He knows things and sees things for which I need to be prepared.

Do not let the heartbreak you have experienced be wasted. God is still with you. His promises still stand. Soak in His truths and let them seep into the deepest places of your heart rubbed raw with uncertainty.

So, while there are still good things in this world, the world is no longer a perfect reflection of God's goodness.

It's necessary for you to not let pain rewrite your memories, and it's absolutely necessary not to let pain ruin your future.

If we place our hope and future in the hands of our unchanging, unflinching God who never leaves us or forsakes us, we'll find healing and freedom. We'll be able to see something on the other side of all the pain. Something good. Something we know will be so worth whatever it takes to get well.

Transformation helps us more clearly see Jesus. And when we more clearly see Him, we can more clearly see the miracle in our mess, the good in our difficulty, the redemption in rejection.

I needed a go-to script for this situation. So, I lowered my head and prayed, "God, I am at the end of my strength here. This is the moment I've got to sense Your strength stepping in. The Bible says Your power is made perfect in weakness. This would be a really good time for that truth to be my reality. Help me see something else besides this temptation looming so large in front of me it seems impossible to escape.

Fill in the blank: This rejection doesn't mean I'm [whatever negative label or shame-filled feeling you are having]. It makes this [opportunity] [person] [desire] a wrong fit for me right now. Instead of letting the feelings from this situation label me, I'm going to focus on God and His promises for good things.

Good things are coming. I know it. Today's disappointment is making room for tomorrow's appointment. Let's look for those good things with great intentionality.

The beliefs we hold should hold us up even when life feels like it's falling apart.

His pain in the garden became power in the tomb! His crucifixion on the cross became the defeat of death. His broken body became the resurrection hope for the world.

God is good. God is good to me. God is good at being God. And today is yet another page in our great love story.

What happened yesterday can't be changed, but it can be forgiven. That's your miracle in the mess.

We'll be able to see something on the other side of all the pain. Something good. Something we know will be so wroth whatever it takes to get well. So instead of running from the pain, we embrace it as necessary. We must feel pain to heal the pain. If we never allow ourselves to feel it, we won't acknowledge it's there.

The promise is a glorious hope to hang on to for the future. But it's His presence in the process that will steady our hope for today.
