You were secure in your wickedness; you said, ëNo one sees me.í Your wisdom and knowledge led you astray; you told yourself, ëI am, and there is none besides me.í

Surely deception comes from the hills, and commotion from the mountains. Surely the salvation of Israel is in the LORD our God.

Then I said, “Ah, Lord GOD, how completely You have deceived this people and Jerusalem by saying, ëYou will have peace,í while a sword is at our throats.”

Although they say, ëAs surely as the LORD lives,í they are swearing falsely.”

They have lied about the LORD and said: “He will not do anything; harm will not come to us; we will not see sword or famine.

The prophets are but wind, for the word is not in them. So let their own predictions befall them.”

For among My people are wicked men; they watch like fowlers lying in wait; they set a trap to catch men.

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority. My people love it so, but what will you do in the end?

Do not trust in deceptive words, chanting: ëThis is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD.í

But look, you keep trusting in deceptive words to no avail.
