The thing is I'm a great believer in the perfect moment. They don't come around that often.

But it was even worse when you knew at that very moment that there was still time to save yourself, and yet you couldn't even budge.

I could pretend otherwise, pushing it out of sight and hopefully out of mind. But if something was really important, fate made sure it somehow came back to you and gave you another chance.

This was our common ground, the secret we shared but never spoke aloud. I should have been with him; she should have left him alone. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. It's so easy in the past tense.
