Quotes About Creativity

Writing fiction (that means I make up stuff) is like having a free GO PAST GO card. You can write pretty much whatever you want, burn down a building, maim or kill a character, you can create love, hate, payback. You can create fictional places that over time actually become real to you the writer, and also to the reader. For example, Pinewood, where the vigilantes hang out, is a fictional farm in McLean, Virginia.

~ Fernando Pessoa

To say! To know how to say! To know how to exist via the written voice and the intellectual image! ~ Fernando Pessoa

~ Fernando Pessoa

To have touched the feet of Christ is no excuse for mistakes in punctuation. If a man writes well only when he's drunk, then I'll tell him: Get drunk. And if he says that it's bad for his liver, I'll answer: What's your liver? A dead thing that lives while you live, whereas the poems you write live without while.
~ Fernando Pessoa
Ser poeta não é uma ambição minha. É a minha maneira de estar sózinho.
~ Fernando Pessoa
La música, la luz de la luna y los sueños son mis armas mágicas.
~ Fernando Pessoa
Sometimes I muse about how wonderful it would be if I could string all my dreams together into one continuous life, a life consisting of entire days full of imaginary companions and created people.
~ Fernando Pessoa
The poet is a faker / Who's so good at his act / He even fakes the pain / Of pain he feels in fact.
~ Fernando Pessoa
12. Se escrevo o que sinto é porque assim diminuo a febre de sentir. O que confesso não tem importância, pois nada tem importância Por: Bernado Soares In: Livro do Desassossego
~ Fernando Pessoa
We know that the book we will never write will be bad. Even worse will be the one we put off writing. At least the book that has been written exists.
~ Fernando Pessoa
At other times I wake up from the half sleep I'd fallen into, and hazy images with poetical and unpredictable colours play out their silent show to my inattention.
~ Fernando Pessoa

My self-critical mind allows me to see only the defects and faults in my own work, and so I only have the courage to write snippets and snatches, brief notes on the theme of nonexistence, and yet even the little I write is imperfect.
~ Fernando Pessoa
Os poetas místicos são filósofos doentes,  E os filósofos são homens doidos.
