For whenever I speak, I cry out; I proclaim violence and destruction. For the word of the LORD has become to me a reproach and derision all day long.

If I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I become weary of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur son of Malchijah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah. They said,

But refer no more to the burden of the LORD, for each manís word becomes the burden, so that you pervert the words of the living God, the LORD of Hosts, our God.

Thus you are to say to the prophet: ëWhat has the LORD answered you?í and ëWhat has the LORD spoken?í

But if you claim, ëThis is the burden of the LORD,í then this is what the LORD says: Because you have said, ëThis is the burden of the LORD,í and I specifically told you not to make this claim,

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

This is the word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, which was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.

So the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and all the residents of Jerusalem as follows:

And the LORD has sent all His servants the prophets to you again and again, but you have not listened or inclined your ear to hear.

This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from My hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink from it.

So I took the cup from the LORDís hand and made all the nations drink from it, each one to whom the LORD had sent me,

“Then you are to tell them that this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ëDrink, get drunk, and vomit. Fall down and never get up again, because of the sword I will send among you.í

“This is what the LORD says: Stand in the courtyard of the house of the LORD and speak all the words I have commanded you to speak to all the cities of Judah who come to worship there. Do not omit a word.

and if you do not listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I have sent you again and again even though you did not listen,

Now the priests and prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD,
