When I write, I imagine scenes. I write things down. I take photographs. I do some casting. I rewrite. It's a permanent making or remaking.

Photography is about finding things. And painting is different - it's about making something.

It is a labor of love, but there is a lot of labor, especially when you're trying to build a big, epic world with lots of details and a kind of physics of magic that makes some sense and actually has some rules to it.

When I don't have any ideas, I pick up fabric and start working with it and something happens.

That's the way I will write characters, put a fair amount of myself in them, and then everyone else who was like that person, I will pick and choose.
