We become so accustomed to our sins we sometimes lapse into a state of peaceful coexistence with them, but God never ceases to hate them.

God does not do that for us. To confuse the potential for resisting (which God provided) with the responsibility for resisting (which is ours) is to court disaster in our pursuit of holiness.

Many Christians have what we might call a "cultural holiness". They adapt to the character and behavior pattern of Christians around them. As the Christian culture around them is more or less holy, so these Christians are more or less holy. But God has not called us to be like those around us. He has called us to be like himself. Holiness is nothing less than conformity to the character of God.

God never pursues His glory at the expense of the good of His people, nor does He ever seek our good t the expense of His glory. He has designed His eternal purpose so that His glory and our good are inextricably bound together. What comfort and encouragement this should be to us.

If we are to trust God, we must learn to see that He is continuously at work in every aspect and every moment of our lives.

We are to humble ourselves under God's mighty hand, approaching every relationship and every circumstance in reference to Him.

We cannot separate trust in God from the fear of God. We will trust Him only to the extent that we genuinely stand in awe of Him.

We honor God by choosing to trust Him when we don't understand what He is doing or why He has allowed some adverse circumstance to occur.

That's the way we stand before God: clothed in the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ. And that's the way we can live with the discomfort of the justified life.
