This is what the LORD says to Cyrus His anointed, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him, to disarm kings, to open the doors before him, so that the gates will not be shut:

I know, O LORD, that a manís way is not his own; no one who walks directs his own steps.

If they ask you, ëWhere shall we go?í you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ëThose destined for death, to death; those destined for the sword, to the sword; those destined for famine, to famine; and those destined for captivity, to captivity.í

“You must not marry or have sons or daughters in this place.”

So I will cast you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.í
