Quotes About Christianity

I have adopted what I call a "fat book" strategy. A movement that seeks to change the world cannot make its claims believable with only short books. The world is much too large and much too complex to be capable of being restructured in terms of large-print, thin paperback books - the only kind of books that most Christians read these days. The best that any movement can expect to achieve if it publishes only short books is to persuade readers that the world cannot be changed.
~ Gary North
In a case like this, most Christians won't even bother to ask what Jesus would do. That's because the answer wouldn't match their feelings. As we've indicated before, the answer would always be the same — he'd forgive.
~ Gary R. Renard
A Christian is never dependent on the response of others to grow spiritually. It's our own heart's decisions that matter
~ Gary Thomas
The Christian canon consists of two different, separate voices, indeed of two different choirs of voices. The Old Testament is the voice of Israel, the New that of the church. But beyond this, the voice of the New Testament is largely that of a transformed Old Testament which is now understood in the light of the gospel.
~ Brevard S. Childs
But before Christianity was a rich and powerful religion, before it was associated with buildings, budgets, crusades, colonialism, or televangelism, it began as a revolutionary nonviolent movement promoting a new kind of aliveness on the margins of society.
~ Brian D. McLaren
the more one respects Jesus, the more one must be brokenhearted, embarrassed, furious, or some combination thereof when one considers what we Christians have done with Jesus. That's certainly true when it comes to calling Jesus Lord, something we Christians do a lot, often without the foggiest idea of what we mean. Has he become (I shudder to ask this) less our Lord and more our Mascot?
~ Brian D. McLaren
Accumulating orthodoxy makes it harder year-by-year to be a Christian than it was in Jesus' day.
~ Brian D. McLaren
The terminology used by Paul in the first passage contrasting the many gods and lords with the one God and Lord of Christianity reflects the client-patron relationship that ANE cultures shared. As K.L. Noll explains in his text on ancient Canaan and Israel, "Lord" was the proper designation for a patron in a patron-client relationship. There may have been many gods, but for ancient Israel, there was only one Lord, and that was Yahweh."[19]
~ Brian Godawa
Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself." – Christianity (Matthew 22:36~40)
~ Brian Johnson
Como decían los místicos cristianos, no se trata de seres humanos que tienen una experiencia espiritual, sino de seres espirituales que tienen una experiencia humana.
~ Brian L. Weiss
There is no Christianity unless first there is repentance. And it is not just, "Well, I am guilty." It is not just a conviction. It is a conviction plus a desire to turn away from those things.
~ Brian Richardson
While we often think our end hope is in heaven, it isn't. Our ultimate Christian hope is in the resurrection.
~ Brian Simmons
Everybody had one thing in common: we were all taught to hate Israel and the Jews. In the universal hatred that was preached against Jews, virtually no distinction was made between the Jewish religion and the Israeli state. In my Christian private school, we studied only the New Testament.
~ Brigitte Gabriel
Christians. They're determined to rid the land of any who worship the Horned One. Murdering all the druids, burning the temples, sometimes whole villages, and knocking over the standing stones." The Lady's face hardened. "This god of peace and love certainly likes to bathe the land in blood.
~ Brom
It is quite possible to be a good Christian without ceasing to be a happy, merry-hearted man.

Who is the God that Christians worship? He is the God who loves and forgives. Surely Jesus demonstrated that truth on the cross. But how do we demonstrate this fact in our behavior? Our lives should be a living demonstration that we know a God who forgives.
~ Brother Andrew
You can't use strong-arm tactics against the Church without strengthening it. It's always been that way. Under persecution a man looks at his faith to see if it's worth fighting for, and this is a scrutiny Christianity can always withstand. The real danger comes with an indirect attack, where a person is lured away from the Church before he has a chance to become strong.
~ Brother Andrew
Because if He were a King in name only, I would rather go back to the chocolate factory. I would remain a Christian, but I would know that my religion was only a set of principles, excellent and to be followed, but hardly demanding devotion. Suppose on the other hand that I were to discover God to be a Person, in the sense that He communicated and cared and loved and led. That was something quite different. That was the kind of King I would follow into any battle.
~ Brother Andrew
In western cultures it's not considered tolerant to insist that the only way of salvation is through the blood of Jesus Christ, which was shed on the cross. Yet that is fact. There is only one way in which we can be saved (John 14:6).
~ Brother Andrew
But I knew that we had really met, she the Catholic from Eastern Europe, I the Protestant from the West. There on the crowded tramway platform we had met as Christians.
~ Brother Andrew
Christians need a new filling of the Holy Spirit to love those who disagree with them. And the greatest expression of love is to share with them the most precious thing a Christian has, which is the good news of the salvation of Jesus Christ.
~ Brother Andrew
Many people do not advance in the Christian life, because they get stuck in penances and particular spiritual exercises. They neglect the love of God, which is the goal.
~ Brother Lawrence
he told me the spiritual life was a life of grace, which begins with servile fear, which is increased by hope of eternal life, and which is consummated by pure love.
~ Brother Lawrence
Many people do not advance in the Christian life, because they get stuck in penances and particular spiritual exercises. They neglect the love of God, which is the goal. This could be seen plainly by their works, and was the reason why we see so little solid virtue. The spiritual life is neither an art nor a science. To arrive at union with God all one needs is a heart resolutely determined to apply itself to nothing but Him, do nothing but for His sake, and to love Him only.
~ Brother Lawrence
